For Immediate Release
Several Oklahoma companies will be recognized for leadership in business ethics on April 18 at the seventh annual Compass Awards, hosted by the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium, the Oklahoma Quality Foundation and the Oklahoma Business Round Table. Best-selling author Stephen M.R. Covey will speak at the sold-out program held in Oklahoma City.
J. Larry Nichols, Devon Energy Executive Chairman, will receive the Executive Pilot Award for his leadership in promoting Oklahoma values of integrity at work. This year’s honorees for best practices in business ethics are OGE Energy Corp., Oklahoma City-based parent company of Oklahoma Gas and Electric and OGE Enogex Holdings, and MESA, a Tulsa-based cathodic protection firm.
Companies receiving Honorable Mention awards include: Hogan Taylor LLP; Ideal Homes of Norman; and Pelco Products Inc. ONEOK, parent company of Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, will receive special recognition for the company’s community outreach.
The OK Ethics Compass Awards Program began in 2006 as a way to encourage companies in their efforts to reinforce ethical behavior. The winning companies must demonstrate measurable success in attaining ethical standards in a variety of areas, including leadership, company culture, corporate social responsibility and trustworthy customer relations. Their practices must be replicable for other companies. Winning applications outlining best practices are posted online so that other companies may learn about them. Since the program began, eighteen companies have received awards.
According to Compass Award Co-Chair, Mike Strong, “There are a number of great Oklahoma businesses that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to business ethics, but only a few may be selected to receive this annual honor.”
